User Generated Content (UGC) is original content created by customers and published on social media networks such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, as well as other platforms and channels such as review and booking sites and blogs. In today’s world, UGC is an essential part of the Internet and Word of Mouth (WoM). Most of these networks provide access to their (own) data via an API.


Reviews of activities, accommodations and restaurants are an important source of data for analyses such as sentiment analysis, and other natural language processing (NLP) use cases. Today, every booking engine is also a review platform. Some important rating platforms in the tourism industry are mentioned below:

Social Media (Text)

Social media posts on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter, as well as blog posts are usefull for text analytics to better understand customers. Most of these networks provide access to the data via an API.

Media of Users

Images and videos shared on social networks could be used as a data source for use cases such as media or trend analysis. To name a few media networks: Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Pinterest.

Other Web Content

The web is full of other content such as podcasts, e-books, text documents, infographics, audio tracks, and so on. This tourism-related data sources must be searched and collected on demand.
